*The Meerkats are actually Ferrets, their close cousin - we had hoped to employ a small team of knitting ladies to help disguise the ferrets, but it just won’t be possible as the ferrets will not stand still for measurements! However, we are assured the ferrets are equally as competitive and have welcomed the opportunity to race on the 26th.

The school is in a desperate state and Alan has committed to help raise the funds to support the building of 8 new classrooms. GAGA has committed £6000 towards this project and look forward to seeing its completion.

Mandela pulls in the crowd and raises money for GAGA

We  had a fantastic turnout on Sunday the 14th of January when the Picture House in Stratford upon avon showed  the Mandela film “Long Walk to Freedom”, kindly donating the proceeds to GAGA.  The Picture House advertised the 2pm showing of the film on their website, on their posters and in their leaflets as a fundraiser for GAGA, making it possible for us to raise £829 without any costs to us.  The amount raised from tickets alone, and donated entirely to us, was £737. The rest came from a tin collection at the end of the film. A very big thank you to the Picture House!

Thanks to your support the new school building for KYGN in Mabogini, Tanzania now has steel casement windows.  In addition, the school has been able to hire a full-time Community Worker, Tegemea Kayinga, who has a certificate in community development following a two-year training programme.  Tegemea will continue the work that Michele and Annamariah have been doing, actively engaging the community by making home visits to ensure the safety of children and to encourage school attendance, as well as educating parents on important issues such as domestic violence and child sexual abuse, as well as helping parents find appropriate ways to discipline their children.
