Worcestershire WI Resolution Day 2015

Worcestershire WI Resolution Day 2015

Charlie presented twice at yesterday's Worcestershire Federation WI Resolution Day, on behalf of GAGA. It was a great day and a brilliant opportunity to meet a variety of people and organisations. It was also fantastic to hear from Charlie about some of the successes of GAGA, he focused on Itembalihle, sharing the achievements of this particular project over the last 5 years

Schools set to re-open in Sierra Leone

Schools set to re-open in Sierra Leone

Schools are set to re-open in Sierra Leone in April, after a seven month break due to the Ebola crisis. The number of new cases of Ebola in the country are dropping, but there is still a long way to go to help communities get back on their feet. Read more about the work being done by Alan at a number of schools, with the support of GAGA, here

Changes at the top for GAGA UK

Changes at the top for GAGA UK

We are sad to report that our Director Charlie, will be leaving GAGA on 30th April. Charlie has been with GAGA for five years; he has seen many changes take place within the organisation and has taken GAGA from strength to strength. Charlie has found his role here enjoyable and rewarding, and he will certainly be missed by many at GAGA, both in the UK and South Africa. He will be moving on to a fundraising position for a charity in a different field, but will also continue to be involved with GAGA going in to the future. We would like to wish Charlie the very best of luck in his new job.

Over the next 6 weeks the new Director Sarah, will be working alongside Charlie toallow for a smooth transition. They will also visit South Africa together in July so that Sarah can be introduced to everyone at our different projects. Sarah has recently returned from two years in South Africa, working for an early childhood development charity. She is passionate about the country and about improving the lives of others and is very excited to be working with GAGA. She looks forward to meeting many of our supporters and working closely with our projects in South Africa.

Meerkat’s rally the crowd for a bumper fundraiser

Meerkat’s rally the crowd for a bumper fundraiser

On Saturday, we held our Annual Meerkat Races (they are ferrets really). Our turnout wasn’t as usual, but we had a great night all the same. We were lucky to have wonderful homemade food donated for the buffet, 5 race sponsors, which covered the costs of the ferret races and extremely generous people in the room. After a couple of expenses we raised a massive £1305.50! These funds will be used to create a vegetable garden at First Step Right, South Africa in the summer.

Alan proves his commitment to Sierra Leone

Alan proves his commitment to Sierra Leone

We all know how committed Alan is to Sierra Leone, but this time he has gone over and above what’s expected to prove it. Why? Well he, like all of us, has a lot to celebrate as Sierra Leone emerges from the Ebola Crisis.
