Crowdfunder for Bongiwe
This is the first time I have set up a crowdfunder and it's quite nerve wracking! There are so many decisions to make and at each step you are thinking "will this work", "is this a risk?"
However, I have decided that it is worth me moving outside my comfort zone for this one. Bongiwe grew up in an orphanage in KwaZulu Natal, here at GAGA UK we've known her since she was a little girl. She was always determined and bright and since leaving school she has continued her studies, achieving a diploma in project management and now studying for a network engineering qualification. Throughout the pandemic, Bongiwe has continued to study as best she can, with no electricity in the dilapidated house she lives in, this became very difficult when the college was closed to students. However, in spite of that she has completed three examinations on her course this year, achieving 92% for PC Hardware, 74% for Operating Systems and 88% in her most recent paper. How many of us would have had the resilience and determination to do that?
The house Bongiwe currently lives in used to belong to her grandmother who passed away in January, she was Bongiwe's only living relative and she helped her with the care of her children.
Since January, Bongiwe has been coping on her own and saving where she can to build a better future for her small family. Thanks to Menzi, another GAGA Sangobeg scholar alumni she was fortunate to have support from another fundraiser to commence the build of a new house, in a safer neighbourhood. The funds for that build have now been spent and they have covered the build, including roof, doors and windows. However to make the new home sanitary and safe Bongiwe still needs a toilet, a tap for water to be connected in the yard and fencing around the plot for security for her family and what possessions they have. She also needs some furniture, especially a table and chair where she can study when at home.
If we can raise £750 she can have all these things and her future will be so much brighter. I have taken a chance with an "all or nothing" crowdfunder and I sincerely hope that risk pays off!!! Please help if you can, just a few pounds from everyone who reads this blog could mean we achieve the target. Thank you!
