GogoThis project is a small, independent project deep in the Valley of 1000 Hills.  Russell has dedicated his life to carrying out his promise (iSithembiso in isiZulu) to help others as he was helped as an orphaned child.  He has a small care home and, in addition, each week he prepares a hot meal for the Gogo's (Grandmothers) in the area which often provides them with the only hot meal of the week.  GAGA funds the Gogo Lunch Club which takes place every Tuesday.  Not only does the lunch club help to maintain the physical health of the Gogo's (and a few Grandad's too!) but it also provides a social network for the elderly carers to chat, make beadwork and support one another.

Gogo beading

The beadwork is made to traditional patterns and is worn for special occasions, like Heritage Day or just day to day wear.  Gogo's can also make a little money to supplement their old age grant by selling the necklaces, earrings and other beaded accessories.

Gogo with laying hen

In order to encourage the Gogo's to become more self-sufficient, Russell has recently invested in some laying hens and some seedlings and each Gogo has started a small garden patch. If you'd like to help this project please donate here
