Gogo lunch club success...

We are so impressed by the hard work going on at the White House (previously known as Sithembakuye).
GAGA provide funding for their 'gogo luncheon club,' which supports the elderly in the local community - providing them with a good meal once a week, as well as the chance to socialise, meet new people and get emotional support.

This week the White House served a fantastic 68 meals. Well done!

The White House now also have a flourishing vegetable patch, and also have egg-laying chickens - helping them to create sustainability, have fresh vegetables with their meals, and much more.

Well done to Russell, Precious and all those working hard at the White House - we're all very proud.

Older People's Day

Older People's Day

Today is International Day of Older Persons. We want to say thank you and well done to all our projects in Africa who work with older people, giving them prospects for improving their quality of life, emotional support, education or a meal.

Our older generation deserve to be treated with dignity, no matter where in the world they are.

GAGA currently fund the Gogo Lunch Club at The White House Community Centre (Sithembakuye). This provides a meal once a wekk for up to 70 people; as well as giving older people a chance to socialise, make friends and give each other much needed emotional support. It's a great place to go. When Sarah visited in July, she met a gentleman who goes to the lunch club; he said: 'It makes a big difference, even emotionally; to feel welcome in the centre, and to meet with friends and with other community members. I come every week.'

Gogo Lunch Club

Russell at Sithembakuye, has recently shared some wonderful photos of the 'Gogo Luncheon Club' funded by GAGA UK - made possible by YOU, our donors and supporters. The lunch club takes place once a week on a Tuesday and the grannies (and some grandpas!) in the local area come along to visit Russell for a nutritious meal, as well as a chance for socialising with others. We often speak of how isolated the elderly can be here in the UK; Russell is working hard to ensure that those who are just as vulnerable in rural KZN, South Africa, have the emotional support so vital in their lives.
Thank you for your support which helps us to continue to support Russell and Sithembakuye.

Long Road to Freedom

Long Road to Freedom

Six month ago GAGA funded the repair of a vehicle for Sithembakuye. We had an initial inspection on the vehicle and we funded its repair. We worked with Rotary Club of Inchanga - A 1000 Hills, South Africa on this project and we were very grateful for their ‘on the ground support’. Once the works commenced it became evident further repairs were needed and we asked Rotary Club of Inchanga - A 1000 Hills to help source additional funds as well as tasking Sithembakuye with the same mission. That assistance came forward and the vehicle was delivered to Russell at Sithembakuye on Saturday. This is the first vehicle they have ever had and it offers them the freedom to manage the project in ways which have not always been possible previously.

GOGO's Race for Charity.

GOGO's Race for Charity.

Around 35 of the grannies and grandpas from the Luncheon Club at Sithembakuye ran in the race. GAGA sponsored a trophy – which I split into 3 - for the Winner, the Oldest Participant, and the Most Enthusiastic Participant.  I also had enough to give a small cash prize with the trophies, and I made certificates to be given to all of the participants, so that everyone had something to remember the day.
