Torrential rains have destroyed over 4,000 homes and damaged a further 13,500 homes leaving 40,000 people displaced across Durban and the surrounding areas. The rain started on the evening of the 11th April 2022 and continued across the Easter weekend. Read more
With the current turmoil in the Ukraine our hearts go out to all the innocent people caught up in this conflict. At the same time, we try to focus on the ongoing needs that are out of the headlines but remain nonetheless. The first few months of 2022 have been the usual melange of outward facing activities and internal governance tasks here at GAGA HQ! Read more
What a year we’ve had! 2021 continued to challenge us in so many ways, not only the intermittent restrictions on fundraising events during 2021 and the “virtual fundraising fatigue” that set in after 2020 but also the devastating impact of the pandemic, floods in Tanzania and the political unrest in KwaZulu Natal. Along with many of you we are devastated to hear about the recent unrest in Kwa Zulu Natal. Although this has taken place in close proximity to our beneficiary projects and our students' places of study we are pleased to say that no-one has been hurt. However, the impact is still devastating, causing food & fuel shortages, and lack of chronic medication in the short term and likely higher prices and loss of jobs to follow. Read more

Welcome to the somewhat delayed final newsletter of 2020, as many of you will know I had to take a leave of absence due to family commitments and bereavement, so for me December 2020 and January 2021 have been personally challenging. As such a small charity, this means that some of our regular tasks had to be delayed but rest assured the essential ones of managing your generous donations and importantly, supporting and funding our beneficiary projects continued quietly throughout the period. Quick status update on the 2020 Remembering Tree project! Due to the national lockdown we had to juggle our plans but yesterday (Wednesday 4th November) we were able to yarnbomb the big trees in the Bancroft Gardens, Stratford upon Avon. Read more
