  1. About us

About us

Goodwill and Growth for Africa UK (GAGA) is based just outside Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire. We work from a small office kindly donated to us by Big Red Recruitment where Claire Whatley our Director is based.  Now in our 17th year, GAGA has a strong history of working with partner organisations in Southern Africa and we are proud to have a Board of Trustees made up of individuals who have been part of that journey for the whole time, bringing experience and a wealth of knowledge to our decision-making, as well as some newer members who add their expertise and diversity.

GAGA is dedicated to helping orphaned and vulnerable children and communities coping with lives where they have limited access to the healthcare and educational provision they need to fulfil their full potential and contribute to their society,  everyone involved prides themselves on this approach to its work. We are committed to being transparent and accountable, making sure that no matter how big or small a contribution, it is recognised equally, and that we are always available to speak with anyone interested in our work. We are fiercely committed to the projects we support as we want them to become strong, well-structured and secure in the future to enable their great work to continue. As our funding is not designed to continue forever we work to promote sustainable development. Delivering 'Hands up' and not 'Handouts'

We have a local contact, Debbie Young, who works with the organisations on the ground in South Africa; she is our eyes and ears. We also work closely with and enjoy the support of more established NGOs in Africa. Their experience and knowledge help deliver our mission and ensure everyone benefits from working with GAGA. We are also fortunate to have the support of some renowned Rotarians both in the UK and South Africa and their support continues to benefit our work.

We'd like to wish all of our donors and supporters a very happy Christmas and thank you for your loyal and generous support in 2020. Due to urgent family commitments, Claire has had to take a compassionate leave of absence and therefore our usual Christmas communication will be delayed until January.

Build a One Room House for Zanele

Zanele Sithole is 48 years old and she lives in Swayimane in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa with her five children and one granddaughter. Two children are in school, the eldest daughter is Zanele's carer and the other two are currently unemployed. Zanele suffers from Dementia resulting from a stroke she suffered in 2010. Their current home does not provide adequate shelter and this appeal is put forward to build one liveable room from which this family can start to rebuild their lives.
